A Visceral Icon: The Legend That Is Rudy Ray Moore

Rudy Ray Moore is the latest visited in TDW's Black History Month!

Rudy Ray Moore is widely considered one of the most influential African-American artists of all-time. Frequently called the “Godfather Of Rap“, Moore (along with cult music icon Blowfly) helped pave the way for what the world knows today as hip-hop/rap.

Most people know Rudy Ray Moore as the eponymous character Dolemite in the film of the same name but he was much more than that. He was an Army veteran, comedian, singer, and bigger than life personality during the heyday of Blaxploitation cinema and beyond.

There has been much written and documented about Moore but none as compelling as 2016’s Unsung Hollywood documentary which aired on TVOne. Click the TVOne link below to watch the full 30 minute episode. Also check out Rudy’s Official website, curated by his authorized biographer Mark Murray, for some of the most in-depth coverage of the genre icon.
