Artsploitation Films recently announced the North American release of Trauma (2017), a Chilean horror film directed by Lucio A. Rojas. Trauma depicts the harrowing ordeal of four women named Andrea (Catalina Martin), Camila (Macarena Carrere), Julia (Ximena del Solar), and Magdalena (Dominga Bofill). Their fun weekend in the countryside turns into a nightmare after a victim of government torture (played by Daniel Antivilo) arrives on the scene. Filled with rage, the traumatized man terrorizes them, and the women must fight back to save their lives. Rojas blends the women’s physical life-and-death struggles with the political horrors of Chile’s dictatorial past in this shocking movie that won the Best Film Award at the Optical Theatre Film Festival in 2017.
